Federal laws have been in place for more than a decade that makes it illegal to discriminate against
those with disabilities in the workplace. However, employment statistics and expensive lawsuits
indicate that managers may not understand and heed the message.

Managers must recognize the legal requirements concerning hiring and employing people with
disabilities as well as be able to recognize and correct conduct that could create a hostile work
environment. They must be ready, willing, and able to change their own behaviors to create the
right environment and set the proper example for employees to eliminate any possibility of disability
discrimination or harassment claims.

What you will gain
Education is the key to preventing such problems. The goal this workshop is to help managers and
supervisors understand these issues, know how to prevent disability discrimination and harassment,
and be able to address such problems when they arise. They will learn about the issue of disability
discrimination in order to foster a positive work atmosphere and prevent potential complaints and
lawsuits. By the end of the program, participants will be able to:
  • Identify what is and what isn't disability discrimination and understand how to avoid it.
  • State how the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) defines an individual with a disability.
  • Describe methods of avoiding discrimination issues in the interviewing and hiring process.
  • Describe methods of avoiding discrimination issues with employees on the job.
  • State how to avoid harassment and a hostile environment.
  • Describe the company's policy on disability discrimination.
